About this project
Set directly on Boston Harbor, Battery Wharf is a waterfront residential address located within a larger mixed-use harbor complex alongside the Fairmont Battery Wharf Hotel. While developed as distinct components, the residences benefit from proximity to the hotel’s destination-level amenities—including the Exhale Spa and Sensing Restaurant—offering a lifestyle more closely associated with European harbor living than with traditional Boston condominium developments.
When the residential project stalled, Adams Design Boston was engaged to rebrand Battery Wharf and reintroduce it to the market with renewed clarity and purpose. The work focused on repositioning the property as a quiet, private harbor enclave—distinct from the density and formality of Back Bay and Downtown—while establishing a stronger sense of place rooted in its waterfront setting.
The placemaking strategy drew inspiration from iconic European destinations, using advertising to frame Battery Wharf through references to Portofino, Paris, and Venice. Each comparison was grounded in Boston’s own context, from the nearby Italian North End to parterre-style gardens and balconies overlooking the water, connecting global sensibility with local authenticity.
